SPC Care integrates SMART HELP to make it easier to set up basic SPC mobile phones remotely
Did you know you can remotely configure certain features on SPC basic mobile phones from the SPC Care app? Thanks to the integration of SMART HELP, you can now manage settings such as contacts, volume and the SOS feature through a simple interface, without having to remember or enter the SMS codes used previously. Devices still communicate via SMS messages, but SPC Care automates the process to make remote configuration easier. “When you come over, can you help me with my phone?” Change a contact. Turn up the ringtone volume. Set an emergency number. These small adjustments can sometimes be a challenge for people who use a keypad phone, especially when the person who usually helps them isn’t nearby. After all, we can’t always be physically by our parents’, grandparents’ or other family members’ sides to give them a hand with technology. But that doesn’t mean we have to wait until our next visit to fix a configuration problem. To make these situations easier, SPC has integrated SMART HELP management into the SPC Care app, making it much easier to help people remotely when they use a basic mobile phone. What is SMART HELP and how does it work with SPC Care? SMART HELP is an SPC feature that lets you remotely configure certain settings on some compatible basic mobile phones. Traditionally, using it required manually sending a series of SMS messages from the family member’s smartphone to the phone of the person who needed help. These messages had to include specific codes for each setting, which could make the process less intuitive. With its integration into SPC Care, it’s much easier to use. The family member just needs to select in the app which setting they want to change, and SPC Care takes care of preparing and sending the SMS with the relevant instructions. It’s important to bear in mind that SMART HELP still uses SMS messages to send commands to the basic mobile phone. The difference is that there’s no longer any need to know the codes or enter them manually, because the app automates the process. Therefore, depending on the terms of the mobile plan, sending these SMS messages could result in an additional charge on the phone bill for the smartphone used to configure the settings. This way, SPC Care makes SMART HELP easier to manage without changing the phone experience for the person receiving help. Which features of a basic mobile phone can you configure remotely? From SPC Care, SMART HELP lets you remotely manage some of the most important features of compatible basic mobile phones: SOS function: turn this function on or off and configure the associated phone numbers for emergencies.Contacts: add phone numbers to the address book and, when the device supports them, to speed dial.Volume: turn the ringer, earpiece, and speakerphone volume all the way up to make communication easier. For example, if a family member needs to add a new contact to their address book or can’t hear calls well because the volume is too low, you can help them adjust these settings from your own smartphone. SMART HELP lets you change these settings remotely, so the person using the phone doesn’t have to navigate its menus. Especially useful for making everyday technology easier to use without changing the user’s habits. Which SPC mobile phones are compatible with SMART HELP through SPC Care? If you’d like to see how it works before you begin, we’ve prepared an explanatory video showing how to link a compatible basic phone and use SMART HELP from SPC Care: Why is it important to be able to help remotely without changing how you use your phone? For many people, a keypad phone is still the option that best meets their needs. They’re familiar with how it works, know its buttons, and feel comfortable with simple technology that helps them stay in touch with the people they love. They don’t need to change devices or learn to use a smartphone to get extra help when they need it. With SMART HELP integrated into SPC Care, helping a family member set up their keypad phone is easier. The app automates instructions that previously had to be sent manually by SMS, while the person using the phone keeps the experience they’re used to, without needing to learn new procedures. This technology makes it easier to provide support remotely without interfering with the autonomy or habits of the person using the phone. Because helping someone with their phone shouldn’t depend on being physically by their side. And because sometimes a small technological improvement can meet a very everyday need. At SPC, we believe in technology that adapts to people, not the other way around.
